My name is Marvin Mackey I was educated in New York I was influenced by visiting great Museums such as The Guggenheim, The Metropolitan, Soho and the great galleries throughout the city. I traveled abroad and was exposed to all the great artists in the museums throughout Europe. The great artisans of the past and present have had a tremendous influence in my work.
I like working with stainless steel for several reasons. First it is extremely durable and the gauge I use is thin enough to bend by hand. The reflective mirror steel creates exciting changes in the piece depending on the interior lighting in the room. I have tremendous flexibility with steel and it allows me to express myself in unique ways
When I saw the Bean sculpture in Chicago I became obsessed with stainless steel. The sheer volume you can create is endless. I am constantly striving to create work that is unique and satisfies my intellectual curiosity
